A Burlington institution, the Outdoor Gear Exchange – or just OGE to locals – offers a huge variety of gear for all seasons. Locally owned, the store spun off to add on an online retail business – GearX.com. A large section of the downstairs area is devoted to consignment sales – everything from used skis and boots to name-brand clothing. If you’re looking for a good deal and have some time, there are some hidden gems buried in there. Or if you need to rent some gear for the weekend, they rent skis (downhill and cross country), snowshoes, splitboards, mountain and fat bikes, and canoes, kayaks and stand up paddle boards in the summer.
The downstairs also has a bike and ski shop for repairs and tune-ups, and OGE offers various events and free clinics throughout the year, covering topics such as bike maintenance and how to use a map and compass. The store has an exceptionally well-informed and friendly staff, and there always seems to be someone on hand to answer your questions. Their website also has a ton of helpful information to consider when buying new gear.
