Ourense (pop. 107,000) is a great place for a rest day, especially if you’ve been hoofing it since Puebla de Sanabria without a break. Although it appears a bit gritty, and doesn’t have the immediate, outward charm of a Salamanca or a Zamora, it certainly holds treasures.

Sights not to miss

Naturally, with a city this size, you’ve got plenty of choices for lodging. The city has an albergue, which sits right off the Camino. For non-albergue lodging, some clean, conveniently located options include the Gran Hotel Ourense San Martín and Hotel Francisco II.

Ourense is 556.3 mi (895.3 km) from Sevilla and 69.6 mi (115 km) from Santiago.

This city as all services: ATMs, bar-restaurants, lodging, pharmacies, shops, medical facilities
