There was a full-fledged community mourning when the original, Tudor-style, Oak Bay Beach Hotel finally had its day which makes its reincarnation that much more sweeter – and spectacular.
The old hotel was deconstructed, beam by Victorian beam and brick by dusty brick, then lovingly restored and incorporated into the luxurious new build which is almost literally a Phoenix rising.
Within the plush, modern and uber comfortable decor are charming pieces of nostalgia – a garden wall featuring pieces of 1920’s crockery; shelves of old beams and so forth. The David Foster Theatre hosts all sorts of events from Silver Screen movie nights to jazz soirees with artistes like islander Diana Krall (yes, she does hail from Vancouver Island — as does Kim Cattrall).
If the hotel doesn’t win your heart then the views will, especially when combined with spa treatments at the edge of the Salish Sea, soaking in the salt water and mineral pools.
The resort hotel provides complimentary bicycles for exploring the area such as Ross Bay Cemetery, Oak Bay Village and along the waterfront. It’s also a great a destination while exploring further afield.
