The Nuuanu Pali Lookout

Historic lookout a few miles outside of Honolulu

Something special happens when you drive out of the city and through the lush landscape of the Pali Highway, when the tall buildings disappear and the Jurassic Park-like scenery emerges. Only five short driving miles from Downtown Honolulu, the Pali Lookout gives you a panoramic view of the Windward (East) coast of the island, and the famous Koolau cliffs. This lookout can be just a quick and easy stop on your way from Honolulu to the beachy town of Kailua or Oahu’s famed North Shore.

The historical significance of these views should not be lost to you or your family, as the lookout is an important site of the Battle of Nuuanu, a significant victory for King Kamehameha I in his mission to unite the Hawaiian Islands. Hundreds of warriors lost their lives here, so it is important to remember to show respect while taking in these magnificent, blustery views.
