The old and the new!

Fabulous Nice, capital of the French Riviera, occupies a prime position on the beautiful Baie des Anges at the foot of the Alps. Moreover, its Italianate charm, resulting from a long association with its next door neighbour (see the County of Nice), its Baroque buildings and near perfect climate all contribute to its appeal.

I have distinguished between the modern city of Nice, dating from the 19th century, and Vieux Nice (old Nice), throughout in order to facilitate your visit. Accordingly, there are three itineraries within the city to choose from: a Walk round Old Nice; a Tour of Nice City Centre and a Tour of Outer Nice

Vieux Nice

Vieux Nice occupies a relatively small area at the extreme eastern end of the Promenade des Anglais. Check out my old Nice Walking Tour.

Modern Nice

The modern city of Nice occupies the huge urban area which surrounds the old town. It boasts many attractions including the Promenade and all its beaches, the Russian Orthodox Church, Cimiez, the and Parc Phoenix

For visitors interested in the fascinating history of the city and the surrounding area why not check out my (very) Brief History of Nice.
