Ask a New Orleanian where the New Orleans Jazz Museum is and you will probably be met with a blank stare. To locals this is simply the Old U S Mint building. Dating back to 1835, it is the only building to have minted coins for both the United States and the Confederacy. In 1981, however, it became part of the Louisiana State Museum complex. Here the visitor can learn from the many interactive exhibits about the music most commonly associated with the city. Check out the calendar for the many performances hosted by the museum. From the historic music to the ancient enclosure prepare yourself to be transported to a different time, at least for a little while.
