New England Aquarium

Thousands of sea creatures under one roof

The centerpiece of the Boston Waterfront, the fantastic New England Aquarium brings the underwater above ground. Here, thousands of turtles, sharks swirl around a massive, 200,000-gallon coral reef tank. Other highlights include the vast penguin habitat, a stingray touch tank, an ethereal jellyfish exhibit and excellent marine mammal shows.

Next door, the Simons IMAX Theater has a full roster of sensory stimulating 3D films, most with an aquatic theme. It’s almost as real as being there — you just don’t get wet.

Do you need to feel the wind in your face? If so, sign up for a whale watch and get as close to marine life as you can without actually putting on a wet suit.
