Nauset Beach

One of the Cape's most dramatic for walking, surfing and more

Some of the best surfing on the East Coast happens at Nauset Beach in Eastham, and the body surfing isn’t bad either, if you can take the chilly water.

Near the parking lot, the beach fills up quickly. Bring a packed cooler, walk past the life-guarded area and take your pick from 7 miles of elbow room and quiet, albeit far from facilities.

Keep an eye out for seals, whales, and more and more shore birds as you leave the crowds behind.

Four-wheelin’ vehicles are allowed with permits. Some sections close during plover-nesting season (sometime in April and May). Permits available at Old American Legion Hall (Main St., 9-4, Thurs-Mon in season) and off-season by appointment at the Parks and Rec Dept (18 Bay Ridge Ln.; 508-240-3775).

BTW, the clams, onion rings, and coffee milkshakes at Liam’s near the parking lot are delicious.

Bath houses and outdoor shower are also nearby.
