Reflecting St. Louis’ French heritage, Napoleon’s Retreat is rich in the elegance and formality of the period, but with generous portions of Midwestern hospitality.
The four guest rooms are ornately furnished, but not so that you can’t put your feet up and relax by the fire or get some work done, if you’re traveling on business.
Breakfast is as you like it, in the dining room or in the courtyard. Caramelized French Toast is a mainstay, but servings are not so overpowering that you’ll pop a button as you leave the table.
You’ve got to look very closely for the sign as you approach the inn. Because this is a historic district, Napoleon’s Retreat is identified by a simple brass plaque on the front of the building.
Located in Lafayette Square.
