Museum Puri Lukisan (literally Palace of Paintings) is the oldest art museum in Ubud, originating from the first art collective in Ubud, the Pita Maha Artist Cooperative, which was established by Prince Tjokorde Gede Agung Sukawati in cooperation with a number of foreign artists including Rudolf Bonnet, Walter Spies and others. The collection is housed in four exhibition buildings and offers a comprehensive overview of Balinese art, from traditional to modern.
All artistic styles are featured including the Sanur, Batuan, Ubud, Young Artist and Kelicki schools, along with the best examples of Balinese Wood Carving. The museum is centrally located in Ubud and includes a restaurant and café, set within a large garden overlooking a lotus pond.
The Museum Puri Lukisan Foundation offers several art & culture workshops including introductory gamelan, traditional and classical painting, flute playing, batik, mask painting, shadow puppets, woodcarving, the making of baskets & traditional offerings and Balinese dance.
