Museum of Siam

How the unique Thai identity evolved

One of Bangkok’s best museums, and certainly its most interactive, the Museum of Siam is small and well laid out with a focus on how Thai identity has been formed over the years, with different rooms looking at different aspects of Thai history, going from Buddhism to the Ayutthaya age through to modern day Thailand. There are old cafes where you can sit at the counter, real tuk tuks, wax displays of all the best Thai dishes, and an array of video and multimedia presentations covering just about every aspect of Thai society.

All the displays are labeled in Thai and English, and its a very hands on museum, with many participation necessary or interactive exhibits, making it a great place for kids and the entire family. There are a lot of good photo ops, and it’s highly educational as well, and being that it is near to the Grand Palace, it makes sense to pop in here while out touring Old Bangkok.
