Museo Galileo

Galileo and science history

Save to my Account

An exceptional museum of science with a focus on mathematics and astronomy. The collection of historical implements was started by Cosimo I in the 16th century, with additional pieces accumulated by his descendents and, later, members of the Lorraine dynasty.

The displays include globes, telescopes, microscopes, barometers, thermometers, time pieces, compasses, sundials, and, oddly, a tooth and two fingers from Galileo Galilei himself.

There’s nearly always intriguing temporary exhibits as well.
