Museo dell’Opera del Duomo

The reason that the ground floor of the Duomo looks so spare is because much of its treasures have been moved here. There are also items here taken from the Baptistry and the campanile (bell tower).

The museum won’t make your jaw go slack like the Duomo, but this relatively uncrowded place has a stockpile of treasure that most museums would crawl over hot coals to get. Highlights include the 10 panels the make up the Porta del Paradiso, taken from the Baptistry, located in the glass-covered courtyard, and Michelangelo’s Pietà. Other items include works by Luca della Robbia, Donatello, Baccio Bandinelli and Giovanni Bandini.
