MBK’s claim to “The Most Visited Mall in Bangkok” could be shortened to “The Most Bangkok” with its seven floors of market-style mayhem. The 4th floor has mobile phones and glitzy accoutrements for them: birthday-cake low-relief iPhone cases studded with cheap rhinestones as irresistible as they are not pragmatic. Just around the corner, Thai traditional snacks and bags of crispy dried fish can be purchased.
Down on the 2nd level are shoes starting at 200 baht, print shops that make custom rubber stamps and cards, nail salons, gold and gem stores, and a branch of Mont, the purveyor of yummy toasted bread topped with custards and other delights. On the ground level in the middle is a must-stop CD shop for luuk thung, mor lam, and Thai ’60s pop fanatics.
Add scores of cheap make-up and belt stands, clothes, watches, and a major video arcade on the top level and you’re approaching the ultimate in a Bangkok mall. Just add food everywhere.
