Maui Crafts Guild has a new home, a prominent Pa‘ia corner with expansive windows. The gallery used to be in the two-story plantation style building and then a tiny yellow store across the street.
Maui’s only artist-owned cooperative offers the work of about 25 artisans who turn out an amazing variety of work. Ceramics, wood objects, glass, fiber, prints, jewelry and photographs are on display. Expect high quality and originality. One of the artists is always present in the gallery to tell you about the work and the other artists.
Among the more unusual things are Hawaiian fish prints (gyotaku), baskets made from Maui plants and jewelry shaped like miniature sculptures. “Take some of Maui home with you,” is a gallery theme.
