Maui Arts & Cultural Center, a hub for arts and cultural performances, largely attracts locals, but visitors will find much to enjoy at the impressive center. Two theaters, an outdoor performing space and a spacious gallery provide venues for varied events. Center programming leans to Hawaiian and Pacific Island dance and music, though mainstream artists are part of the lineup. ‘Ukulele and slack key festivals are popular.
The Maui Chamber Orchestra may play classics, while members of the Marley family or Phil Lesh will set the house rocking. This is a terrific place to see top Hawaiian talent, including ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimaburo, Robert Cazimero and Keali‘i Reichel.
The Schaefer International Gallery is Maui’s only museum-quality exhibition space with proper climate controls, lighting and security. An annual Maui Arts juried exhibit showcases island artists. Other exhibits may focus on Hawaiian cultural themes, or feature artists with international reputations.
