Marie Selby Botanical Gardens occupies a historic 1920s residence on Sarasota Bay and 14 acres of gardens. Wander bayfront plots of palm, bamboo, hibiscus, tropical fruit plants, and herbs from around the world; a prize collection of more than 6,000 orchids and 3,600 bromeliads; a koi pond; and a Children’s Rainforest Garden with a canopy boardwalk and rope bridge.
Artsy interpretative signage tells the different plants’ stories with poetry and science. Delightful shops and a barbecue café add to the natural pleasures of one of Sarasota’s oldest and most-loved attractions. Visit Marie Selby Botanical Gardens at holiday time for a special showy affair.
