Loschwitz Christmas Market

The Christmas market in Loschwitz near the Blaues Wunder (blue wonder bridge) is my favourite in Dresden.

The cosy, bright booths are of the highest quality. You can buy handicrafts, not always (actually: almost never) cheap, but mostly worth the price. And of course, those who believe that they are starving and dying of thirst for the rest of the year will find their points of contact for mulled wine and bratwurst.

The corridor between the houses that belong to the old village center and the stalls is narrow. It can be so close to family-friendly rush hours. But during the week and just before closing time you can feel really comfortable. And those who suffer from claustrophobia can explore the part of the market that’s nearer to the river Elbe, which is not so crowded. Or you simply don’t take note of the narrowness between the booths by looking up: above the market hovers a delicious angel, made of colourfully painted linden wood and created by the local artist Reinhold Herrmann. Since 2003 this angel has been a trademark of this attractive market for me!
