Lichtenberg Castle

Remarkable ruins

Save to my Account

Located in the northern Vosges Mountains, this 3rd-century castle sits at an elevation 1,200f/400m and overlooks the surrounding area. Originally owned by the aristocratic German Lichtenberg family, the estate was taken over by King Louis XIV’s army during the French annexation of Alsace. It was later bombed by Germany, so the castle is in ruins, but the remains are fantastic and well worth a short visit.
