In 1973, inmates in this mid-19th-century prison rioted to get out of this building. Today, people are clamoring to get into what is now a hip, historic hotel and social scene at the Liberty Hotel. The atmosphere goes from prison to pampering from the moment the first glass of bubbly is placed in your hand at check-in. (For the second glass, head to Clink.)
The building’s urbane decor artfully integrates remnants of the building’s old identity. The unique aesthetic extends from the soaring lobby to the fine detail in each room. HINT: Ask for 10th floor and above for best views.
Besides a complementary lift to local attractions, the Liberty also maintains a fleet of city-worthy bicycles. Easy access to the Esplanade guarantees an excellent outing. The lounge turns into a nightclub scene as the sun goes down, rocking with locals into the wee hours.
