Simple, if not rather spartan, pub near the Shambles, owned and run by York Brewery. Nevertheless its staff have a reputation for being friendly and welcoming. It specialises in their beers, such as Centurion’s Ghost Ale and Yorkshire Terrier.
During the day this is of intention a quietish pub, having no music or fruit machines, and does not allow children. Despite it’s rather earnest, understated daytime existence, things can get livelier in the evenings, with music after 9pm. Wednesday evening is quiz night.
Basic pub food is available, including a large number of permutations on bangers (sausage) and mash.
Tip If you want to sample different beers, they have a four glass taster selection on offer.
