Ask around and everyone has a favorite Land Ho! story. This popular local eatery in Orleans dates back to the summer of love and continues to lure lines of devotees, who wait, and wait, for the freshest steamers around.
Owner John Murphy has created a casual, comfortable dining room, complete with checkered tablecloths and old business signs hanging above. Families, couples and twenty-somethings come for beer, ribs, stellar burgers and fish-and-chips. I favor clam pie and kale soup from the bar.
Sure Murphy is leaning a bit more upscale with sashimi and other fancy seafood specials listed on the blackboard menu perched on the wall. But old-timers will testify that this will always be the best spot in town for some good grub.
On Thursday-Sunday there’s live music, so expect longer wait times and a rambunctious crowd.
There’s also a branch in Harwich Port (429 Route 28; 508-430-0404) and Costa Rica (but that’s a tad outside the scope of this entry).
