This Italian deli has been a north Toronto staple for over 25 years. The Italian couple that started it sold it a few years back to Carlo Celebre, and to the joy of its regular customers, Carlo has kept the quality high and in many respects the shop has gotten better because Carlo is continually bringing in new gourmet items.
Though the deli has a distinct Italian flair (one of my favourite things to see are dozens and dozens of panatone suspended from the ceiling at Christmas),they carry a wide variety of European items — from meats and cheeses, to oils, vinegars, olives, chestnut puree, sweets, breads, and more. As well, they have dairy items, herbs and condiments, dried fruit, nuts, coffee, and so on.
They also make made-to-order sandwiches, which are popular with locals during the lunch hour and on weekends with folks who want an instant picnic to go.
Best of all, they carry high end products without the high end mark-up of other gourmet shops.
