If you’re looking for an unassuming and friendly place to spend an afternoon, this small beach club tucked into the Calanque de Bonne Eau, roughly halfway between Sainte Maxime and St. Raphael, is it.
Imagine a small protected inlet of turquoise water, with a small bar, tables and chairs for dining or drinks seaside, and a friendly staff. That’s La Crique—like coming to a friend’s house on the French Riviera.
The shore is rocky and it’s not great for small kids (no sand castle building).
The restaurant serves fresh salads, burgers, fish, veggie plates and snacks, all 100% homemade, at a dining table or at your beach chair. Don’t forget to wash it down with an ice cold beer beer or chilled rosé.
There are always a few locals hanging about, and free wifi too, if you want to be plugged in.
The best way to find it is to head to a restaurant called Le Cercle, which is visible from the road. Park on the road (careful, it can be busy) and walk down to La Crique.
It will soon be a favorite of yours, too.
Open seasonally from June to October.
