Luang Prabang’s most popular excursion from town, Kuang Si is a wonderful set of cascades with emerald water. On weekends, lots of locals come out here to picnic and enjoy the falls, and the main pool at the base can be pretty crowded. It’s worth climbing up higher, where there are some lovely pools to swim in. There are food vendors down below, so there’s no need to bring a picnic, and plenty of tour agencies in town arrange trips out here, although it’s probably best to get your own group together and hire a tuk tuk for the day, rather than having to be on a timetable. The falls are about 20 miles south of town.
