Koh Mak

Eastern Thailand island escape

Koh Mak used to be really undiscovered, but a UK Sunday Times piece naming it as one of the ten best islands in the world did put Koh Mak firmly on the world beach escape map. However, it still remains fairly sleepy, and is nowhere near as developed as neighboring Koh Chang, and is an excellent island escape, quite popular with families. There are a collection of resorts for all budgets on the south and west coasts of the island, and activities include jungle walking and kayaking. While here, make sure to get over to Koh Kham, a small paradisiacal islet just off Koh Mak’s west coast, which can even be walked to during low tide, which features some really turquoise water and even one small resort, should you fancy staying.
