This little treasure has been around since 1945, although known as Jack’s Boathouse until 2013, when new owners acquired it, renaming the facility Key Bridge Boathouse. Located along the waterfront in Georgetown, the boathouse sits beneath Key Bridge and the Whitehurst Freeway, tucked away from all the posh boutiques and surging shoppers.

The boathouse rents colorful canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards for pleasant excursions upon the Potomac River. Theodore Roosevelt Island lies straight ahead of you, in the middle of the river; some people like to paddle over for a picnic and a hike.

Even more people love to continue further along past Georgetown, the Kennedy Center, the Lincoln Memorial and back. A boat trip upon the Potomac is one of the loveliest ways to view the city.

Key Bridge also offers classes and tours.

Metro: Foggy Bottom on the Silver,  Blue and Orange Lines, with a bit of a walk. Or take the DC Circulator into Georgetown.
