Dominating the southern bank of the Reuss River and the first large-scale Baroque church in Switzerland, the Jesuitenkirche (Jesuit Church) was constructed in 1666 after the Counter Reformation.

The church is regarded as Switzerland’s most beautiful Baroque church and its easy to see why, with its elaborate yet elegant stucco work and rosy pink altarpiece. The church is dedicated to Francis Xavier, one of the co-founders of the Society of Jesus.
