Santa Fe’s resident indie movie house in undergoing a renaissance thanks to Game of Thrones creator George R. R. Martin who purchased and reopened the theater in 2013. First opened in 1976 and changed hands several times over the decades. Today, the auditorium seats 128, plus four VIPs. It screens both contemporary, digital films, as well as 35 mm classic and cult films. Between April and November, it hosts the city’s only “Midnight Movie” series at the, somewhat perplexing given the name of the series, hour of 11 p.m. Increasingly, the cinema is becoming a venue for live music and author readings.
