Located on the west side of Richmond—about 10 minutes from downtown—James River Cellars Winery is a local wine-lovers favorite. The tasting room is open seven days a week, but it’s the special events like the Friday summer concert series on the patio that residents love, especially because well-behaved, leashed dogs are allowed at the outdoor tables. In fact, the winery also hosts a special PAWS on the Patio adoption event for the Richmond SPCA. With Richmond’s moderate climate, you can kick back with a glass of petit verdot or petit manseng and enjoy the bucolic landscape from the spring through the fall. Tastings start at $8 for a flight of 12 to 14 wines (add $2 to keep the souvenir glass) and some special events require an additional general admission.
