This is one of the classic fin-de-siècle brasseries that every second Bern local tells you that you simply must go to, and in the next breath they’ll tell you that you must have Jack’s famous Wienerschnitzel. And you must, because, as the brass plaques at your table attest, everyone who is anyone has been there too.
The menu boasts all sorts of wonderful French-influenced and Swiss food, but once you see the schnitzel, proudly presented by one of Jack’s smooth waitstaff at a neighbor’s table, you’ll plump for the so-big-it-needs-a-zipcode (but still so perfectly thin and tender!) schnitzels too.
The dessert list may, at first glance, seem old-fashioned, with offerings like mousse au chocolate, mille feuille and peach Melba, but Chef Marc Haeberlin has managed to make them modern and exciting all the same.
