Burlington’s Intervale is a 700-acre area of lowland area where various community farms have set up shop, growing food for community-supported agriculture memberships and for local restaurants. The Intervale Center itself is a non-profit organization focused on strengthening community food systems.
In addition to providing locally grown food to the Burlington area, the Intervale is a popular spot for community activities. Summervale, held every Thursday in July and August, is a popular (free) family-friendly event featuring live music, local food offerings and kids activities. Wintervale events also offer local food for sale, and free ski and snowshoe rentals for the whole family. Snow conditions permitting, volunteers will groom a 3-mile cross-country ski track though the farm fields and wooded areas.
Outside of the planned events, the Intervale is a great spot to explore the trails along the Winooski River and alongside farmlands. For being so close to downtown Burlington, you quickly feel like you’re out in the countryside.
