The Inn at Wawanissee Point (pronounced wah-wah-NEE-see) is owned by Dave and Trudy Holdener, a warm, gracious couple. Located just 20 minutes south of the Dells near Devil’s Lake State Park, it sits on a hidden, 42-acre parcel overlooking the Wisconsin River Valley, and features a beautiful view of Lake Wisconsin.
The Holdeners built the four-guestroom inn in 2004. Gorgeous woodwork fills the home. That’s thanks to Trudy father, a Bavarian master cabinetmaker, and Dave’s brother. The inn rooms are sumptuous, yet not pretentious, featuring amenities like soft bedding, fine toiletries, flat-screen TVs and wifi.
Guests have the run of the house, which includes spacious living and dining areas, plus a bar. In the evenings, the couple serves wine and cheese at the bar. There is also an exercise area, sauna and outdoor hot tub.
The property contains numerous marked paths that you can stroll along in the warmer months, and snowshoe along come winter. The Holdeners thoughtfully provide the snowshoes, plus set out a little blackberry brandy along the trail in case you need a little warming up.
In the morning, guests enjoy a full breakfast, typically created from local foods — think fresh fruit, quiche and homemade scones.
If you’re there on a clear day, you might be able to see the Capitol in Madison from the inn’s back windows.
