Napa Valley it isn’t, but wine buffs will still enjoy an evening at Yellowstone Cellars, where owner Clint Peck has created festive environs for sipping reds and whites made from grapes harvested in Washington’s Yakima River Valley. On the brews front, Montana Brewing Company downtown keeps raking in national awards for such creations as their Fat Belly Amber, Sharptail Pale Ale and Custer’s Last Stout – all to be nursed while ordering from complete lunch and dinner menus. Uberbrew on Montana Avenue ranks a close second for its quaffs and excellent menu.
For heartier spirits, Trailhead Spirits in the old train depot across from Uberbrew is making a name for itself with its award-winning gins and vodkas, all made (from Montana grains) and served in a lively bar setting.
Looking for best dive bar? Hot tip – walk into Tiny’s Tavern wearing Denver Broncos gear, and you’ll immediately be everybody’s best friend. Tiny’s was bathed in orange when Denver won the 2016 Super Bowl, and the place is Billings’ headquarters for Bronco Nation the rest of the year, too. Even if you’re not a Bronco backer, you’ll be hot for the Cajun chicken wings and a concoction called “The Scoonie”. And what other “dive bar” offers bacon-wrapped asparagus?
