Madrid’s Oldest Functioning Church

Only this church and that of San Nicolás, which is also on this route, retain the medieval bell towers that were done in the Islamic influence of Mudéjar craftsmen (Muslims working under Christian patronage).

San Pedro El Viejo is Madrid’s oldest surviving medieval church, dating to the 14th century.

Both San Pedro El Viejo and San Nicolás are built over sites where mosques once stood.
