Highland Golf Links in Truro, a challenging 9-hole course (par 35), is the closest thing you’ll find to traditional Scottish links on the East Coast. From the first hole, where deep, natural roughs packed with Scotch broom and heath separate you from the beach canyon at hole #2; to the famous #6 hole, on a cliff 1,130 feet above the Atlantic; to the final, par 3 9th hole, immortalized by Donald Ross in one of his famous par 3 series paintings; this is a magnificent course. Narrow, unirrigated fairways and whipping winds keep you humble and full of fodder for the recap over a cold one.
At hole #6, linger long enough to watch whales frolicking in the Atlantic on one side, and the serene scene in the Cape Cod Bay on the other.
After the Cape Cod Light was moved to its present spot at hole #7, they wisely replaced its windows with unbreakable glass.
