The lights dim — at the hands of a 7- to 15-year-old child. The scenery is all in place — because the junior stagehands have made it so. The young actors whip out a well-honed performance. At the Harwich Junior Theatre in Harwich professional directors, actors, choreographers, and technical stage managers take the next generation of the theatrical-bound under their wings and teach them, theatrically, to fly.
Established in 1951, the oldest theater group in the country doesn’t stop with the kids. There are classes for all ages here, and 12 shows a year that span comedy to tragedy, children’s works and classics. Summer skews towards the younger set, with more mature performances in the off-season’s Harwich Winter Theatre.
