Gringo Jones

a little bit of this, a little bit of that

Mexican and Asian imports piled high and mixed in with antiques, landscape tools and Day-of-the-Dead artwork make shopping at Gringo Jones an adventure worthy of the great treasure hunters.

The politically incorrect “gringo” is Leon Jones, who began his career as a hair dresser in Webster Groves. But clients, friends and neighbors fell in love with all of the goodies he would bring back from vacations in the Taxco, Monterey and Guadalajara regions of Mexico, and encouraged him to take his buying skills to the next level.

Interesting to note that the comedian Phyllis Diller, who has a star on the St. Louis Walk of Fame, lived upstairs in this building in the 1960s.

Located just east of The Hill, adjacent to the Botanical Gardens.
