You might not even notice the Grand Marquis Waterpark Hotel & Suites, a long, gray building on South Wisconsin Dells Parkway that’s nearly hidden by towering arbor vitae. But check it out — it will pleasantly surprise you.
Chandeliers and faux cherry furnishings elegantly decorate the lobby. Rooms are spotless and contain microwaves and fridges. You can choose from among eight designs, including jacuzzi and family suites.
Kids love the large, L-shaped indoor pool, which features a triple-chute dolphin slide, among other amenities. The separate Blue Lagoon Waterpark, designed for those 11 and under, lies down the hallway. (It’s got a whirlpool, too, which makes it easy for parents to keep an eye on their kids.)
Can’t forget to mention the resort’s game room, nor my favorite — an immense air hockey table tucked into a niche near the waterpark.
Outside there’s another pool with slides, water basketball and a waterfall (not to mention a purple dinosaur), plus a spacious, grassy area with some picnic tables and grills. “The only thing we don’t supply is the meat,” jokes owner John Koscielniak.
The Grand Marquis doesn’t sit on the area’s popular Strip. But Koscielniak points out there are some 20 places to nosh within a two-block radius of the hotel.
Stays here often include tickets to Noah’s Ark or other freebies.
