In Whitefish, Montana, Glacier Nordic Club maintains ski trails in winter. Daily, the club buffs out two courses with skate skiing lanes and classic tracks. The public can ski both courses.
Beginners should go to the course in town, due to easier trails. Located at Whitefish Lake Golf Course, the Glacier Nordic Center loops 12 kilometers of trails along the fairways. In some sections, views extend up to Big Mountain. At the course, Glacier Nordic Shop serves as the hub. Buy your trail pass here. You can also rent skis and take lessons.
Intermediate and expert skiers will enjoy 23 kilometers of more difficult hill climbs and flying descents on the Big Mountain course. Tucked in upper Haskill Basin, trails open onto mountain views up Whitefish Mountain Resort. At this course, skiing is free. Find the trailhead located about 3.3 miles up Big Mountain Road.
The golf course trails do not permit snowshoers. But the Big Mountain trails do, as long as they stay to the side.
