The Queensland Gallery of Modern Art houses collections of modern and contemporary Australian, indigenous Australian, Asian, and Pacific
art, and also gives a stunning sense of light and space. It’s hard to decide which is better; different but equally intriguing and fascinating.
Together QAGOMA holds a collection of more than 17,000 works and stages a dynamic program of Australian and international exhibitions. Check the website for what’s likely to be showing when you visit. There is also a dedicated Children’s Art Centre, as part of the precinct, with fun activities for young art lovers.
Also part of the Queensland Cultural Precinct, its older sister, the Queensland Art Gallery is equally stunning. Water features and outdoor sculptures, and riverside pathways link the two galleries either side of the State Library of Queensland.
In the decade since the opening of GOMA, more than 10 million visitors have wandered through the galleries.
