Portland’s Fremont Bridge, opened in 1973, is Oregon’s longest. It also is the second-longest tiered arch bridge in the world. It carries Interstate 405 and US 30 traffic between downtown and North Portland where it intersects with I-5. It also is a designated Peregrine falcon nest site.
After the public outcry over design of the Marquam Bridge (as being prohibitive to pedestrian and bicycle traffic), the Portland Art Commission participated in the Fremont’s design. While more expensive than the Marquam Bridge, it does look gorgeous.
