Fort Malden

Keeping an Eye on the Detroit River

Because Ontario’s wineries are along the southern edge of the province, when you’re visiting Ontario Wineries chances are you’re not too far from significant historic sights from colonial times. One such sight is Fort Malden, which is in Amherstburg in the Lake Erie/Pelee Island region.

Though little of the fort is left, the grounds around the area where the fort used to stand overlooking the Detroit River is quite interesting, with many plaques, pictures, and artifacts that tell about the history of the fort and the area.

Tours are offered at 1 and 3 p.m.
