This landmark two-story building was built in 1898. It is as long as two football fields, so it is a workout walking from one end to the other. The wide center walkway is lined with all manner of food-related stalls and shops plus a few restaurants. Produce is usually organic, and gourmet delicacies are prevalent. It is fun to gather a bag of goodies (bring your own, or law dictates a small charge for most bags needed) to take out for a picnic or back to a hotel room or home.
Top purveyors include Acme baked goods, Blue Bottle coffee, Cowgirl Creamery cheeses, and Frog Hollow Farm stone fruit and preserves. Shops specializing in caviar and in mushrooms are also in the mix. While here, take time to peek out the back door at the spectacular and free close-up view of the bay.
