Everglades
Historic House & Gardens, a National Trust–listed, cool-climate arboretum and nature reserve
established in the 1930s, is one of the best public gardens in the Blue
Mountains.

This former home of a Belgian industrialist, Henri Van de Velde, is surrounded by
five hectares (13 acres) of native bushland and exotic flora, a rhododendron garden,
an alpine plant area, and formal European-style terraces.

A garden theatre, complete with a huge sandstone arch as a backdrop, is used to stage plays in the summertime and during Leura’s annual Shakespeare Festival.

The house also hasArt Deco touches and serves an old-fashioned comfort food in the tearooms with beautiful views of the Jamison Valley. Best times to visit are in spring during the Leura Garden Festival, or autumn when the leaves turn a golden hue.
