Ebenezer Baptist Church was founded in 1886 and the congregation moved into what is known as the Heritage Sanctuary in 1922. It was in this sanctuary where the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther preached his message of nonviolence in the 1960s.
There are now two Ebenezers and they are directly across the street from one another at the Martin Luther King Jr.’s Historical Site.
The old church stands next to the MLK Center and Dr. and Mrs. King’s tombs. The Horizon Sanctuary, where worship takes place today, was dedicated in 1999 and is next door to the National Park Service Center.
