Walking the Vera Katz Eastbank Esplanade is the first thing I recommend to a first-time visitor to Portland. It provides the best view of the city and incorporates the best qualities of its residents: art, beauty and recreation. People ride their bikes, jog with their pets or just take a pleasant stroll.
Named after Portland’s beloved Mayor Vera Katz, the 1.5-mile, floating walkway runs between the Steel Bridge and the Hawthorne Bridge, along with connections to eastside neighborhoods. It loops back across the river to Gov. Tom McCall Waterfront Park.
