East Neuk

A series of pretty fishing villages.

“Neuk” is Scots for corner, and the East Neuk refers to the southeastern corner of the Fife peninsula. It’s a bit off the beaten path, so the string of villages along the coast here tended to retain their traditional feel.

Elie and Crail are possibly the quaintest, and popular with artists; Pittenweem and Anstruther have pretty working harbours; with the latter also the location of the informative Scottish Fisheries Museum and the famously good, harbour-front fish-and-chip shop, the Tail End.

Crail Museum (Jun–Sept Daily; Oct Sat & Sun) offers visitor information as well as an insight into past times hereabouts.
