Rental cars are readily available at the Nassau airport and other locales. If you have an American Express credit card, use it to charge the rental if possible. In case you’re in an accident and your insurance won’t cover it, Amex will.

Driving around Nassau and Paradise Island can be VERY confusing. First, there’s the driving on the left side of the road issue, which takes some getting used to.

Secondly, there are the roundabouts, which are baffling enough when you’re driving on the right.

Thirdly, the road map they hand out doesn’t really give you a good guide to where you’re going, especially when you leave the city. It’s best to get good directions first.

Driving in the Out Islands is usually more straightforward as many have only one or two roads. Small islands such as Bimini are generally traveled by foot or golf cart, which you can rent in advance.
