If you’re curious about everyday Vietnamese life and need a break from sightseeing, head on down to the Dong Xuan Market in the Old Quarter, where you’ll find hundreds of stalls selling everything imaginable, and thousands of shoppers milling around. Most items on sale, such as shoes, clothes and vegetables, are more for local shoppers than tourists, but prices are very cheap, so keep your eyes open for a bargain. Electric cars leave from the main (west) entrance regularly on 30-minute tours of the Old Quarter and Hoan Kiem Lake for 15,000d a head.
